2022 marked the explosion of the billion-dollar industry called Esports – an industry that brings new energy and potential opportunities for countries. According to a report from Newzoo, by the end of 2022, the total number of gamers worldwide reached approximately 3.2 billion people, with revenue generated from Esports reaching 196.8 billion USD, achieving a growth rate of over 2.1% per year. It is forecasted that by 2025, the Esports industry will reach 125.4 billion USD in global revenue.

Along with these impressive numbers, some leading powerhouses in the field of Esports have begun to form globally, such as China, South Korea, and particularly Saudi Arabia, which has decided to invest in building an Esports city with an investment cost of up to 500 million USD (equivalent to over 12 trillion VND by 2025).

Right in Southeast Asia, 2022 also marked the first steps in recognizing that Esports is gradually becoming one of the important areas for the youth. Esports was included in the list of official competition sports at SEA Games 31, a SEA Games where the host country Vietnam achieved many impressive high results.

Recognizing the development trend and having a clear strategy, Ocean Entertainment Group (OEG) decided to launch into the market in May 2022. OEG proudly stands as one of the pioneers in organizing Esports tournaments exclusively for the student community. After more than a year of development, OEG is increasingly affirming its reputation and brand through a system of large-scale, professional tournaments that have been organized and are ongoing.

On September 26, 2023, at 14:00 at Novotel (2 Thai Ha, Dong Da, Hanoi), OEG organized a press meeting to announce the launch of the National Student Open Cup (NSOC) 2023. This will become OEG’s annual tournament aimed at creating a professional, healthy Esports playground for the Vietnamese student community, while spreading the positive meanings of Esports to society.

For the first season, NSOC 2023 will be co-organized by OEG and the Vietnam Esports Entertainment Association (VIRESA). The tournament has a scale of over 2 billion VND, with a total prize value of up to 1 billion VND, competing in two of the hottest games currently, Valorant and League of Legends. With the participation of over 100 universities and colleges nationwide, NSOC 2023 promises to be the most anticipated, explosive Esports event of 2023 for the Vietnamese student community as well as the eSports fan community in general.

The tournament officially opened registration on August 20, 2023, and is expected to kick off from September 30 to October 28, 2023. After going through the online qualifying rounds, the top 8 teams of each subject will enter the regional finals, with the top 2 representatives of each subject advancing to the national finals held at OEG Esports Stadium – the Diamond NTT of the tournament – a modern, professional Esports arena that meets international competition standards. OEG Esports Stadium is expected to officially come into operation in October 2023.

In addition, NSOC 2023 is also honored to receive the support of sponsors from major businesses and brands such as NTT Vang Hoang Tuan Technology, GAM Coffee, HaVietfoods, Infore Technology, Omega Group, Ravi, The Cake Lab, Adfly, Vietnix; NTT Bac: The Alley, Ocean Group, Sudico; the publisher VNG Games (publisher of 2 games in the tournament); policy sponsorship partners: Vietnam Olympic Committee; strategic partners: VTVcab; media sponsorship: Beat Network, OTA Network, GIGAN; broadcasting support units: OTA Esports, VTC eSports; companion units: Enter, FUSOFT, Vietnam Martial Arts Federation, 1900, Hero club, Track42, Seul skinlab, kdKOO… etc.

This not only affirms the attractiveness and strong appeal of the tournament but also shows the desire to encourage and promote the passion for eSports of units and businesses towards students, contributing to the development of the national eSports scene. This is also one of the values that OEG aims to create on its journey “Elevating New Heights for Esports in Vietnam” of its own.

During this meeting, OEG will also announce and introduce exemplary projects that the company will implement in the period of 2023 – 2025 to partners and customers. Notably, the OEG Esports Stadium entertainment complex and the development roadmap of the Esports tournament system for the Vietnamese student community as well as the region in the period of 2023 – 2025, built and organized by OEG.
