On May 21, the Crossfire event kicked off in the quest for a gold medal for Vietnam’s Esports. This game is considered nostalgic for many in the Vietnamese gaming community. However, at this point, Crossfire is no longer a particularly hot title. Nonetheless, Vietnam is still seen as the strongest contender for the gold medal in this competition.
And the actual results proved the pre-tournament predictions to be correct. In their three matchups on opening day, Vietnam faced virtually no obstacles, even against the Laos team and later in the winners’ finals against the Philippines. Although at times the Philippine players displayed some resistance, it wasn’t enough. Ultimately, the Vietnamese team officially advanced to the finals of the Crossfire event at SEA Games 31 without losing any games.

As the remaining three teams squared off, it was no surprise that the higher-rated teams won their matches 2-0 in the BO3 series. In the losers’ finals, Indonesia defeated the Laos team. With this victory, the Indonesian players still have a chance at gold. However, they must first overcome the Philippines, a team that was defeated by Vietnam in the winners’ finals, to secure the last spot in the grand finals.

Although it is a game that has lost some of its appeal compared to other popular Esports titles like League of Legends or PUBG Mobile, Crossfire still brings a lot of excitement to the audience. The Vietnamese team certainly aims to win the gold medal for this Esports title, which can be considered a landmark in the Vietnamese gaming scene, especially in this SEA Games held right at home.
