Alongside the ongoing LEC Spring 2024 and the LCK set to kick off in less than 24 hours, the VCS Spring 2024 will also return to the League of Legends audience in Vietnam starting from January 20, 2023. In addition to changes in team rosters, the new rules of the VCS are also of great interest to fans. This will be the second year since Riot took over and relaunched the biggest League of Legends tournament in Vietnam. Fans are certainly looking forward to more exciting developments ahead.

And to the delight of VCS fans, several new elements have recently been announced by the tournament organizers. First, the schedule has been significantly improved. At first glance, VCS Spring 2024 will still run from January 20 to May 19. However, unlike some other regions, VCS players will have ample rest time, with the upcoming period coinciding with the Lunar New Year. Additionally, the playoffs will only last about 15 days, much shorter than Summer 2023 (around 1 month). This change has received a lot of positive feedback from VCS viewers.

– “The schedule is reasonable”
– “No need to play playoffs for a month”
– “This year’s schedule is much better, there’s progress”
But more importantly, is the “1v1 side selection” rule announced by the VCS organizers on the afternoon of January 16. According to the organizers, when two teams tie in a BO3 or BO5 match, the final game will have the side selected through a “1v1 side selection” format. The map used will be the Howling Abyss from ARAM. The winning condition is that the team that gets 2 kills first, or destroys the opponent’s turret first, will win and have the right to choose sides. Additionally, the Sudden Death rule will be applied if the game lasts longer than 7 minutes. In that case, besides the above regulations, a Fire Zone will appear and gradually shrink. The team that loses a player to the Fire Zone first will lose the match.

There will be a new side selection method if two teams tie after 2 games (BO3) or 4 games (BO5)
No need to say more, VCS fans are extremely excited about this new regulation. Under the VCS organizers’ post, comments expressing approval are abundant. For those who may not know, this regulation is somewhat similar to PCS, but with some improvements (only used in case of a tie in BO3, BO5) and an added Sudden Death mechanism. However, there are also concerns that the new rule may affect the preparation and mindset of players in the deciding match if they happen to lose in a 1v1.

But in any case, these are the new points of VCS Spring 2024. And perhaps, both Riot and the tournament organizers want to take this opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the new mechanism and make more refined adjustments in the future.
