As of now, Dplus KIA (DK) has gone through a season filled with ups and downs. In the LCK Spring and Summer Split this year, DK only secured a 5th place finish as key players (ShowMaker, Canyon…) showed a significant decline compared to 2022. Fortunately, DK regained their high form during the regional qualifiers to clinch a spot in the World Championship (Worlds) 2023.

Recently, ShowMaker made surprising revelations about DK’s performance in the recent regional qualifiers. In terms of competitive spirit, DK was incredibly confident about defeating Hanwha Life Esports. Therefore, even though they lost the first game, ShowMaker and his teammates ultimately emerged victorious. Additionally, this player shared that he ‘copied’ Corki’s pick after seeing Faker use the champion.
“I regret the Xerath pick because I missed a lot of skill shots during the game. Regarding the Corki pick, I must admit that I hadn’t practiced this champion. I saw Sang-hyeok (Faker) using this champion so well that I decided to ‘copy’ him and bring it into the match immediately. Thankfully, this pick proved effective,” ShowMaker shared.

Perhaps the match ShowMaker referred to was Game 3 of the winners’ finals between Gen.G and T1. At that time, Faker used Corki to face off against Azir, finishing the match with a KDA of 3/012 and securing victory for T1. Thus, this player learned from Faker and used Corki to challenge Azir in the hands of Zeka during the regional qualifiers.

ShowMaker’s learning proved to be quite accurate as DK defeated HLE in the decisive Game 4 and subsequently secured a spot at Worlds 2023. Perhaps DK fans should extend their gratitude to Faker, as he indirectly helped this team navigate the treacherous regional qualifiers.
