The highlight match on February 24th (Vietnam time) in the LPL Spring 2022 was the showdown between Weibo Gaming and LNG Esports. Up until this point, both teams had similar standings with a record of 7 wins and 1 loss. However, while WBG was on an unbeaten streak, LNG’s unbeaten run was recently broken by Royal Never Give Up.

Entering game 1, TheShy opted not to use carry champions like Gwen or Graves but brought out the ‘God of War’ Sion. This ‘tank’ champion turned out to be a true powerhouse as TheShy got ahead early. Although he didn’t farm as much as his counterpart Ale from LNG, with strong performance from TheShy and consistent play from Angel and SofM, WBG didn’t dominate the game but gained significant advantages, from Baron to Dragon Soul. With a Sion enhanced by Dragon Soul, nothing could stop WBG as they took a 1-0 lead.
However, in game 2, LNG had a better game plan and team composition. TheShy still played Sion, but this time, he was less effective. SofM also struggled to make an impact with Viego while Huanfeng, ON, and Angel were exploited heavily. Ale’s Fiora became stronger and stronger, leading the ‘Suzhou Unicorn’ to equalize the match at 1-1, setting up a decisive game 3.
In game 3, WBG regained the advantage. A disastrous 4-man gank to the bot lane resulted in all 4 LNG players falling. SofM and Huanfeng got ahead early, allowing WBG to easily establish control of the game. On a day where TheShy truly activated ‘Top God’ mode, his Gnar alone was enough to put LNG in a difficult position. WBG took their time and systematically dismantled LNG’s advantages, from towers to Dragon buffs. The game ended with a decisive victory for WBG, with LNG managing only 1 tower throughout the entire third game.
With this victory, WBG not only extended their unbeaten streak in the LPL Spring 2022 to 7 consecutive games but also climbed to the top of the standings, surpassing Victory Five on the tiebreaker. Additionally, the impressive performance from SofM and his teammates has made them a surprising contender for the LPL Spring 2022 championship.

As for LNG, this defeat is not a disaster as the ‘Suzhou Unicorn’ still has a solid record. However, this loss may affect the mentality of the LNG players, especially as they will face V5 in their final match of week six. And surely, Rookie and his teammates will not be an ‘easy target’ for LNG.
