The coach-voice mechanism has made its initial impacts in professional League of Legends
As known, in the updates for professional League of Legends coming in the upcoming 2026 season, one of the most notable and talked-about changes is the coach-voice system. For those who are not aware, this mechanism allows coaches to communicate directly with players and issue instructions while the players are still competing. Each communication lasts for 45 seconds, and a team can use it 3 times in a match. Recently, this mechanism has truly come into play.

In the match between IG and LNG in the Semifinals of the Demacia Cup, the fourth-seed team from the LPL last season, despite not having their strongest lineup, won decisively against LNG with a score of 3-0. Notably, LNG used their full roster of starters for the upcoming season. In numerous situations, it was the coach-voice mechanism that “saved” IG in crucial moments.
Meanwhile, LNG could also utilize this mechanism, but they failed to make any impact. After LNG, this mechanism also helped IG continue their victory with a 3-0 against JDG – another very strong opponent. Coach Tabe admitted after the match that he did not participate in the coach-voice, as that was the responsibility of Coach Zoom.

The coach-voice mechanism could stir up professional League of Legends even more next season
With what has been demonstrated, the coach-voice mechanism could be a useful tool for teams, especially those facing disadvantages in matches or mid-tier teams when facing “big names.” The coach-voice mechanism also transforms the match from being solely the players’ game into a battle of wits among coaches, alongside the drafting phase.
However, according to some viewers, this mechanism may still put many teams at a disadvantage. For instance, teams that do not have a solid coaching system or teams preparing to enter crucial skirmishes may find that external influences can change the course of the match, rendering their earlier efforts “in vain.”

However, since this is just the Demacia Cup – primarily a friendly tournament, perhaps both the teams and the audience will still need the official season to fully assess the impact of this coach-voice mechanism on the professional League of Legends scene.
