The Rise of Varus – Frostfire in TFT Season 12
In version 14.16 of TFT Season 12, Riot Games made a series of extremely beneficial adjustments aimed at the Varus – Frostfire composition. First, the Gunner system received an increase in bonus damage starting from the 2 champion mark. Next, the amount of Attack Damage (AD) and Ability Power (AP) from Frostfire has also been significantly buffed to make activating the tribe’s effects easier. Finally, Varus received direct buffs, and the casting time was adjusted to increase the frequency of skill usage for this unit.

All these factors have helped the Varus – Frostfire composition come back extremely strong in the current 14.16 patch. The damage output of the composition has now significantly increased, especially the ability to snowball in combat with effects from the Frostfire tribe. Moreover, with the presence of champions like Olaf and Hwei, players also have several strong carries to combine with Varus to take down opponents.
Building the Varus – Frostfire Composition in TFT Season 12
In the early game, players should focus on acquiring inexpensive yet quality Frostfire units like Warwick and Twitch to ensure survivability and damage output. Players should also utilize Blitzcrank or Rumble to activate the 2 Vanguard mark early on. If lucky enough to obtain Hwei, this is a great option in the early game. However, if Hwei does not roll early, Zilean can be an extremely effective substitute.

With the use of multiple 4-cost carries, players’ main task in the mid-game is to hold gold and level up steadily. Players should only consider rerolling for Swain and Hwei if these units appear too frequently in the shop. Under normal conditions, these units still perform exceptionally well at 2-star level and help players maintain a lot of health during levels 6-7.

After successfully reaching level 8, players will use their gold to search for important 4-cost units like Varus, Olaf, or Nasus to complete their composition. Additionally, Diana is also an extremely strong unit in the late game that players should acquire as this unit not only has great survivability but also provides a slow effect on opponents. This will significantly reduce the damage output from opponents, especially against carries that heavily rely on attack speed.

Some Notes When Building the Varus – Frostfire Composition
Essentially, this is a type of Vertical composition (straight composition) utilizing 5-7 Frostfire marks depending on the match situation. Therefore, areas or Augments that support this playstyle like Unit Distribution, Just One Path… are extremely suitable for the Varus – Frostfire composition. Additionally, players should pay attention and select the Augment with the reroll effect for the shop with all 4-cost champions whenever possible. This is an excellent opportunity to help players acquire Varus, Olaf, Nasus early and secure victory.
