T1’s Worlds Skins
On the morning of August 15 (Vietnam time), the highly anticipated skin line that the League of Legends community has been waiting for—the 2023 Worlds skin set for T1—finally made its way to the official League of Legends servers. Given the significance of the skin line, alongside T1’s stature and reputation, it’s no surprise that this could be one of the most lucrative skin lines in League of Legends history. However, there are also many fans, and possibly even T1 players like Keria, who feel disappointed since each player is limited to just one champion. As a result, many fans jokingly suggested that T1 should win the 2024 Worlds to get another skin for themselves.
Gumayusi Continues to “Throw Shade” at His “Favorite Champion” Despite Winning with T1
However, in the recent victory against Kwangdong Freecs (which also secured T1 a playoff spot in the LCK), Gumayusi continued to “throw shade” at his favorite champion, Varus. He mentioned that he is considering using Caitlyn for the next Worlds skin if given the opportunity. Thus, Varus—considered to be tied to some of Gumayusi’s most skillful plays, notably the Baron steal in the 2022 Worlds final and the 1v2 against JD Gaming in the 2023 Worlds semifinals—may still not have a skin of his own.
In fact, Caitlyn is also a champion that Gumayusi is very comfortable with. Not to mention, the T1 AD carry also has at least two other strong champions, Draven and Aphelios. Currently in the LCK, Gumayusi is regarded as the top player using Draven, boasting a 100% win rate this Summer so far. But perhaps Gumayusi is also aware that if he wants a beautiful skin that can generate economic benefits, it almost has to be tied to a female champion that is easy to use. Caitlyn meets both of these criteria.
However, discussing the 2024 Worlds skin at this point is a bit premature. T1 itself must put in maximum effort in the upcoming journey with two current goals still intact: winning the LCK Summer 2024 and securing a spot at the 2024 Worlds. Both of these tasks are challenging, and any slip-ups during the group stage could come at a high price, even resulting in losing the entire season.
