In LPL history, there are 3 teams considered the “Three Greats”
These are three names that have been associated with the development of the largest League of Legends tournament in China. These teams not only have a rich tradition but also boast impressive achievements, frequently appearing in the playoffs, with the common thread being that they have each claimed the LPL championship at least once. They are Edward Gaming, Royal Never Give Up, and Team WE. All three teams share a common point that none of their fans wish for: having once dominated the LPL, but their current roster has plummeted drastically. Specifically, WE is facing a more serious predicament than just their standings in the LPL Summer 2024.

According to information circulating in the LPL community, WE is facing a crisis after their Summer 2024 season has long ended (WE ranked second to last in the group stage and did not qualify for the top 13 teams eligible for prize money).
It is reported that the players of WE have been leaving the team one after another. The phrase being used is “everyone,” which has left LPL fans wondering if it is just the players leaving or if all departments of WE are affected. If this is a dissolution, LPL fans might witness the collapse of the Three Greats for the first time in over a decade since the tournament’s inception.

In reality, after the early days of LPL, WE has gradually lost its status. In recent years, WE has also not appeared on the international stage anymore. The team itself has not been invested in to bring in additional strong players to enhance the quality of competition. With personnel significantly weaker than the remaining teams, WE’s failure has been entirely predictable for a long time.

The potential dissolution or continued decline of a traditional team like WE is incredibly unfortunate. However, it also reflects a harsh reality about professional Esports in general and League of Legends in particular, especially in robust Esports environments like China, where elimination is unavoidable if performance does not improve.
