Overview of Ionia Composition in TFT Season 16
In TFT Season 16, Ionia is one of the factions with the most champions, and most of them have quite stable power that corresponds to their cost. In fact, champions like Yasuo and Yone can synergize well, or Yunara can single-handedly absorb the damage for the whole team. Even a champion like Xin Zhao can serve as both a tank and a primary damage dealer if equipped with the Twilight Challenge trait. However, Ionia is a faction that is not easy to operate at the start of the game, as most champions are low-cost and their damage and defense rely heavily on items.
Building the Ionia Composition in TFT Season 16
With a good number of low-cost champions, players can activate the Ionia trait early in the match with champions like Shen, Jhin, and Xin Zhao. Additionally, players can consider adding a Brawler champion (usually Illaoi) to enhance the tankiness of the composition. A common weakness of Ionia is that the champions are quite fragile and can be taken down early when facing compositions that can attack the backline right from the start of the fight.
Because the Ionia champions are low-cost, relatively easy to upgrade, and can be acquired early, players can easily unlock Kennen. This is a champion that can provide crowd control and good area damage, as well as being sturdy enough to stand in the front two rows. In the mid-game, acquiring Wukong early can also be an advantage for the composition. Besides upgrading champions (Yasuo), players should also save gold to roll for Yunara and level up to 8 to obtain Sett.
By the late game, players will complete the Ionia composition at level 9 with all 9 champions from this faction: Shen – Sett – Kennen – Wukong – Xin Zhao – Yunara – Yasuo – Jhin – Yone.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Ionia is a composition with diverse damage but relatively poor defense as the champions all have low health and the damage output is not abundant, relying heavily on equipment. Moreover, to obtain Yone, players must upgrade the composition while also leveling Yasuo to 3 stars. Therefore, Ionia is quite difficult to operate and requires many factors to achieve optimal effectiveness.
