Among the new tribes added to Teamfight Tactics in the mid-season update, the Battlecast tribe seems to be the most overlooked. Perhaps the dominance of Cybernetic, Rebel compositions, or Sorcerers has made people forget about this new tribe.
Essentially, this tribe has an incredibly good long-term fighting capability with the Battlecast effect for damage or healing. Moreover, key units like Cassiopeia and Kog’Maw are also considered strong champions in longer combats with high DPS, so the Battlecast can definitely shine. Perhaps the only thing this composition lacks is a strong enough frontline.

This weakness can be completely mitigated by incorporating units from other tribes when building your composition. In the early game (before reaching level 5), the most important thing is to have an Illaoi unit early to establish the strongest frontline possible. This will be your team’s main tank, so don’t hesitate to gather as many of this unit as possible to reach 3 stars; you can also mix in a few Brawler units for additional health.

Moving into the mid-game phase, you need to find a stable and continuous damage source, so Cassiopeia and Kog’Maw are the best choices for the backline. Don’t overlook Nocturne, as the fear skill of this unit can take out the enemy’s carry, creating the difference between a winning or losing round.

In the late game, the most necessary thing is to complete the 6 Battlecast combo, which is your team’s main strength. Viktor and Urgot are two extremely powerful units in the late game, and you need to do everything possible to acquire these units. The minimum requirement is that players must reach level 8 to increase the appearance rate of Urgot and also to gain additional space on the board for other necessary units.

The item build for the key units in this composition is almost no different from the usual, with Cassiopeia primarily needing Rapid Firecannon, Blue Buff, and Morellonomicon to be strong; if not, switching to a defensive item is also acceptable. Essentially, the goal of this tribe is to survive as long as possible, so defensive items like Thornmail for frontline units, Trap Claw, or Quicksilver for carries are essential.

The final advice for those who want to try this composition is to position Urgot wisely. In the upcoming patch 10.14, this unit will pull the furthest enemy champion within range, so make sure to push this unit closer to dangerous enemy units with strong crowd control at the frontline.
