In all seasons of Teamfight Tactics, compositions that deal heavy magic damage have always been at the top of the meta. Season 5 is no exception, as the Angel – Sorcerer composition is proving to be extremely strong at the moment. In fact, this composition can counter a currently popular team comp known as Shadow – Assassin.

The operation of this composition is actually quite simple, with tanky Knight units to buy time for Vel’Koz to charge energy and cast spells. With the tremendous damage from the skill Life-Form Disintegration Ray, Vel’Koz can completely obliterate the enemy team composition. You can easily add the Sorcerer duo of Ivern and Karma to this composition for additional damage and crowd control in the late game.

The ideal start for this composition is to purchase Varus early and activate the Angel effect. Varus’s skill, Rain of Arrows, while dealing physical damage, can still critically strike if equipped with the Archangel’s Gloves. Therefore, this unit is the perfect holder for items for Vel’Koz or Karma later on. Moreover, Angel units like Leona and Aatrox are very strong in the early game and will help you secure a winning streak quite easily.

Moving into the mid-game, what you need to do now is to acquire Zyra as early as possible. This unit provides magic damage and very annoying crowd control effects in the mid-game. If you cannot upgrade Varus to 2 stars, you might consider selling this champion and buying Brand to achieve the 2 Sorcerer effect. Your goal at this stage is to maintain as much health as possible and assemble the necessary items for your future carry.

In the late game, the 2 units you should prioritize acquiring are Rell and Vel’Koz. Rell, with her shielding and stunning abilities, will give Vel’Koz enough time to charge energy and cast spells. Moreover, Rell’s stunning effect also helps Vel’Koz not to be taken down too quickly during the casting time. Additionally, you will have two paths to build this composition: aiming for 6 Angels or stopping at 3 champions and adding other units.
For the 6 Angel threshold, you need to retain Leona and acquire additional units like Syndra and Lux to complete the composition. This is a relatively risky playstyle as only Rell and Garen are frontline units. If you only play at the 3 Angel threshold, you should buy pieces like Taric, Ivern, and Karma. The crowd control immunity from the Angel race is a crucial factor in defeating the Shadow – Assassin composition. This setup is much more balanced compared to the 6 Angel playstyle.

Regarding item selection, you should prioritize obtaining the Giant’s Rod in the shared selection round to combine it into Archangel’s Gloves and Hextech Gunblade for Vel’Koz. If you choose to also play Karma, consider getting the Tear of the Goddess to craft a Blue Buff. The Chalice of Power is also an item you should combine with this composition as it provides additional damage for Vel’Koz in the late game.
