Teamfight Tactics is no longer just a game of luck to win, but also combines calculation skills, thinking, and strategy that can help you become the victor.
A Challenger player has pointed out some basic yet serious mistakes that players in lower ranks often make. Let’s explore what we might be missing to improve our skills.
1. Over-focusing on race/class buffs

Many players misunderstand that they must maximize all race/class buffs of their main champion in the composition, such as Yasuo, Zed, Azir, Olaf, etc. However, you should only focus on the buffs that are truly beneficial in that match and improve your lineup with stronger champions or races/classes like Guardian or Mystic.
For example, with Azir primarily dealing magic damage, you don’t need to activate Sand in your lineup; instead, make room for Taric, Amumu, or Janna that you can obtain, or if you can reach 2-star, Azir will be better protected to deal damage.
2. Not taking advantage of other opportunities during rerolling

When you decide to spend a large amount of gold to find a 2-star main champion to build your team, be sure to buy strong champions of 3-4 gold that you can use, such as Annie, Azir, Malphite, Kindred, etc., instead of just looking for a specific champion “Yasuo” that you had aimed for before.
Doing so will give you the chance to pivot your lineup if you roll extensively but can’t upgrade the champion you initially targeted. And even if you find the champion you need, if the others haven’t reached 2-star, you can still sell them without losing gold.
3. Overemphasizing wins and losses in the early rounds of the match

Many players always want to win every round from the beginning to the end and spend too much gold too early to level up and reroll to avoid losing health in the early rounds. This can cause you to fall behind due to not having enough gold saved up if you can’t secure a win streak.
Or if you are losing, try to hold out until the 4th streak to gain interest, as losing health in the early rounds is not too significant, and you can wait for the right moment to “comeback” with more gold thanks to the losing streak.
4. Rigidly applying the gold accumulation strategy

However, this can be a critical mistake if you don’t dare to use gold for leveling up or rerolling champions like other players, and they will be stronger than you and possess all the important champions of the match before you.
5. Not combining items until the composition is finalized

Some champions and compositions require specific items to reach their “dream” power level, such as Zed needing Redemption and Guardian Angel. Many players often wait until they have determined a definite composition or that specific item is required before they combine.
However, while combining items early will limit your composition options, it will help you maintain health more effectively before finalizing your lineup with the right items. Additionally, you can always combine some items like Guardian Angel, Morello’s Evil Tome, Sword of the Divine, etc.
