One of the most anticipated events in the League of Legends (LoL) community for the 2022 season is the Star Guardian. Continuing the story of previous Star Guardians that were launched, the new Star Guardian brings a fresh storyline, featuring new champions like Ekko and Nilah added to this skin line. This event has also seen significant investment from Riot, as the Star Guardian skins are among the best-selling skin groups from this publisher.

However, according to the LoL community, it has recently been discovered that this event is causing issues for computers. According to a post from a player recently shared on the social media platform Reddit, opening the Star Guardian event alongside Twitch or YouTube results in lag. This issue only disappears when players close the external applications and restart League of Legends. Additionally, the player noted that simply opening League of Legends already consumes 30% of the CPU.

Other players have also reported similar issues: the Star Guardian event consumes too many resources on their computers. One player using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor (released in 2020) reported that it consumed nearly 70% of memory just for League of Legends. Another player claimed that even when disabling all effects of the Star Guardian event (background music and visual effects), League of Legends still consumed 10-12% of the resources of a Ryzen 7 5700G processor – a CPU that was just released in August 2021.

Remember that during the 2021 season, Riot announced that future updates, including changes related to LoL design, would no longer be compatible with older computer models. This publisher confirmed that new visual improvements would require players to upgrade their computers.

This had also caused considerable controversy within the LoL community. Many argued that a significant number of players are still students and would find it very difficult to have a powerful enough computer to play LoL if Riot made such upgrades.
However, with the recent reports of lag when opening the interface for the new Star Guardian event, it seems that Riot has indeed followed through on what they announced. Players have the right to express their frustration, but it may be difficult to persuade this publisher to change the direction they have set from the beginning.
