A statistic from Riot shows that T1 made significant mistakes
In Round 3 of the Swiss Stage at Worlds 2025, T1 faced Gen.G – arguably the toughest opponent they could encounter at this stage. Of course, T1’s defeat was somewhat predictable, but the manner of their loss and the factors leading to it are what truly matter. According to many opinions from both fans and experts, T1 lost to Gen.G right from the draft phase, and Riot has recently added to this argument.

Recently, Riot released the roster with the 5 positions that have the highest win rates in Worlds 2025, which can be considered the 5 strongest champions for each lane throughout the matches so far. The lineup includes Sion, Xin Zhao, Orianna, Corki, and Braum. From this, the audience realizes a fact: T1 allowed 4 out of these 5 extremely powerful picks to be available for Gen.G.
Notably, all 4 of these champions are also the specialties of T1’s members. However, even when they couldn’t secure these picks, they didn’t ban them and instead allocated bans to Galio (ban) and Ambessa, Aurora, Wukong. This trio is strong but not easy to execute. Meanwhile, immediately after the first ban phase ended, Gen.G had the complete “dominant” duo Orianna – Sion along with Xin Zhao.

When competing against Gen.G, even using meta champions and power picks, teams still might not be able to defeat the reigning MSI champions. However, by allowing Gen.G to use champions that are both their comfort picks and some of the strongest in the meta at that time, the win rate could be almost zero, and T1 proved this.
Perhaps it’s time for T1 to regain their form and be more cautious right from the draft phase
T1’s complacency or desire to gather information (if any) has occurred numerous times this season and has brought many unfavorable results to the team. Currently, T1 has no way back. And perhaps they need to wake up before it’s too late.
