Recently, the organizers of the Mid-Season Invitational 2020 announced the official schedule for this summer. Accordingly, the second largest tournament of the professional League of Legends world will be postponed by two months, from the originally planned start date of May 2020 to July 2020.
Specifically, the schedule for MSI 2020 has been set to run from July 3 to July 19. However, the organizers also noted that this is not the final “decision”, as if the pandemic situation does not improve, the postponement may be extended further. Additionally, the competition venue has not yet been officially announced at this time.
Due to the postponement of MSI to July, the Rift Rivals 2020 tournament has also been officially canceled. Furthermore, some summer tournaments in various regions will also have their start times adjusted. Most tournaments will kick off earlier (May – June) to create space for MSI to take place in July.
It can be seen that the complex developments of the pandemic are the main reason for the decision to reluctantly postpone the MSI 2020 schedule. Even if a competition venue far from the pandemic area is determined, there is no guarantee that players will be able to participate, especially when South Korea, China, and Europe – the three largest regions of professional League of Legends – are becoming hotspots for the outbreak.
