In just over a day, LCK Spring 2024 will officially kick off again. In this new season, many exciting surprises are expected as nearly all teams in the LCK have changed their roster to some extent compared to 2023. Notably, during the Media Day before the new season, all 9 teams (except T1) voted that Faker and his teammates would be the new kings of the LCK. It is at this moment that thoughts turn to the names that will challenge T1 in the new season.
Among these, Gen.G and KT Rolster are definitely two highly regarded names. This is because both teams possess very strong players, and these names have each defeated T1 at least once in the past. For instance, Canyon, Kiin, Chovy (Gen.G) or Deft, Pyosik, BeryL (KT). Notably, KT can be seen as a smaller version of DRX with the presence of 3 members who previously made history against T1 at the Worlds 2022. Additionally, Dplus KIA with ShowMaker or Hanwha Life Esports with Peanut and Viper are also very formidable.
However, while many people, including fans, experts, and players, consider T1 the number one candidate for the Spring 2024 championship, Kingen thinks differently. According to him, the 2022 World Champion shared: “I know everyone highly values T1, but to me, HLE is scarier. I was there last year, and I know they will do well again this year. Moreover, Zeka, my former teammate, is there, and I know how well Zeka can perform.”
Perhaps many fans still remember, Kingen is one of the 2 DRX members who joined HLE (the other is Zeka). However, the “all-star” roster of HLE did not achieve good results and delved deeper into crisis after Clid encountered issues. In fact, HLE did not even qualify for Worlds 2023 after losing in the regional qualifiers against DK, Kingen’s current team.
HLE will still have a very strong “all-star” lineup, and both Gen.G and KT are similar. However, what these teams need is a leader and a lineup of stars performing at their best. And that is also the biggest issue for HLE in 2023 and possibly for Gen.G, KT, or DK next year. At that point, the roles of players like Peanut and BeryL could be crucial in determining their team’s fate.
