In the match on February 15 (Vietnam time) in the LPL Spring 2022, Weibo Gaming achieved a convincing victory over Edward Gaming. This is something that even the most optimistic WBG fans could not have imagined. The reason is that EDG is currently regarded as the strongest team in the League of Legends scene in general and LPL in particular. Furthermore, despite WBG having an unbeaten streak, they often leave fans feeling uneasy every time they hit the battlefield.

However, on a day when all WBG members played exceptionally well, EDG was completely outmatched by WBG. Every tactic EDG employed was thoroughly countered by SofM and his teammates. In this victory, the most significant factor was TheShy, whose bold decisions helped WBG dominate EDG.
In game 1, “TheShy” was ready to sacrifice minion stats to invade the jungle and disrupt Jiejie’s farming. Even with Flandre’s support, both EDG players struggled to deal with the Vile Maw. In game 2, TheShy continued to give up some minion stats to poke Scout’s Corki, allowing Angel to have ample space during the laning phase. Angel himself admitted that TheShy’s excellent performance made it difficult for EDG’s jungler (Jiejie) and hindered their gameplay.
Yet, alongside this outstanding performance, fans also discovered that TheShy is the “hard counter” to EDG, with a 100% win rate against the 2021 World Champions since 2018. Even during periods when TheShy’s former team Invictus Gaming or he himself faced performance issues, he still managed to defeat EDG. In fact, many of those wins were clean 2-0 victories against one of the most storied teams in the LPL.

It can be said that WBG’s victory on February 15 brought together perfect timing, location, and the right people. From the human factor to luck, as SofM himself stated, everything was in place. And surely, this win will serve as a huge morale boost for WBG in their remaining journey of the LPL Spring this year.
