Yesterday, the official website of LoL Esports announced the Mid Season Cup 2020: LCK vs LPL, also known as the China – Korea Showdown, will kick off on May 28. You can find more details about the tournament HERE. Although 8 names have been revealed to compete, the tournament format and group divisions have yet to be announced, leaving fans speculating about potential matchups.

The most anticipated tournament right now is definitely the Mid Season Cup 2020: LCK vs LPL a.k.a China - Korea Showdown

However, last night, Invictus Gaming’s Support, Southwind, unexpectedly revealed on stream that the groups for the China – Korea Showdown have been finalized. Specifically, his team, Invictus Gaming, will be in Group A alongside JD Gaming, Gen.G, and DragonX, while Group B will feature T1, Damwon Gaming, Top Esports, and Funplus Phoenix.

Looking at this temporary group stage, it is clear that the Chinese teams appear to be superior to their Korean counterparts in Group A, especially in the top lane. The Shy, with his experience of being a world champion and an aggressive playstyle, is always regarded as the number one top laner in the world, while Zoom just won the LPL with JD Gaming, making him a player not to be underestimated. In contrast, Rascal and Doran from the LCK representatives are among the less prominent names in the Gen.G or DragonX rosters.

Turning to Group B, the phrase “deadly mid lane” might be the best way to describe it. Faker needs no introduction as he has always been the spearhead of T1 for many years. Showmaker seems keen on expanding his champion pool as much as possible, recently climbing ranks with a style of playing a different champion each game, and he is soon to hit Challenger in Korea with this approach.

Meanwhile, Knight from Top Esports is proving to be a real monster in the mid lane with exceptional mobility and skill execution, making him one of the few who can outplay The Shy. DoinB needs no further discussion, this unique player can play anything in mid as long as it helps the team secure victory; we surely remember his Nautilus mid.

Not only excellent in gameplay, DoinB also has a very humorous personality and is ready to entertain at any time, which is why he is affectionately called 'Ba Gà LPL'

Furthermore, DoinB represents a new generation of Korean players who have trained and competed in China. In contrast, Faker symbolizes the dominant generation of League of Legends in the Land of the Morning Calm with consecutive world championships before being halted by a disastrous year in 2018. Perhaps the matchup between the two generations, the two players Faker vs DoinB (if it happens) will be incredibly exciting.

Nevertheless, all this information remains in the rumor category, and we must wait a bit longer for official news from Riot Games.
