Levi Reveals GAM’s Behind-the-Scenes at Worlds 2024
For strong teams throughout history, their scrim schedules usually prioritize teams of equal standing or at least a minimal skill gap. The reason is that scrims are primarily experimental, but more importantly, players need to see what a champion can do in a match. If the opponent is too weak or a scrim ends too quickly, it becomes difficult to gain an accurate perspective on the specific matchups that teams will apply in real competition.

Therefore, Levi’s recent revelation shows that GAM Esports is indeed facing quite a few difficulties at Worlds 2024. The legendary captain of GAM stated: “We haven’t had any wins when scrimming with LCK, because we haven’t been able to scrim with them at all.” Meanwhile, LCK teams are proving to be some of the highest quality names in this tournament and are extremely familiar with the meta. Not being able to scrim with 4 LCK teams is also a disadvantage that smaller teams like GAM have to accept.

In reality, VCS teams still have opportunities to scrim with top teams from LPL, LCS, or LEC. However, the chances to scrim with LCK, as Levi revealed, are very few, and teams from the Korean league do not take it too seriously. Levi himself admitted that GAM has only scrimmed with LCK in 2 Worlds. In 2022, Dplus KIA primarily “trolled games” more than actually scrimming.

VCS Teams Must Also Improve Their Quality at Tournaments Like MSI and Worlds
Although VCS has made some impressions at international tournaments, when facing LCK, the record is limited to the single win of Lowkey Esports against Damwon Gaming years ago, and Saigon Buffalo created some difficulties for T1. With such a large skill gap, it’s no wonder LCK teams are not keen on scrimming with VCS teams.

VCS teams themselves also need to elevate their status through competitive results. If things remain as they are, it is likely that VCS’s scrim schedule in the future will still not include LCK.
