As we know, recently, Gen.G suffered a major defeat against Bilibili Gaming (BLG) in the Quarterfinals of Worlds 2023. This marks the second consecutive Worlds tournament where Gen.G entered as the defending champion of the LCK. However, just like last time, Chovy and his teammates could not reach the final match. In fact, this time they performed even worse, only managing to reach the Quarterfinals (last time, Gen.G made it to the Semifinals and lost to DRX).

In fact, the LCK still has two teams competing at Worlds 2023, which is one of the rare years where this region has fewer representatives than the LPL in the Quarterfinals. However, Gen.G’s failure has unintentionally placed the “burden” of holding the Worlds championship title back on KT Rolster and T1. Their opponents are not easy either, as KT will face the remaining championship contender JDG, while T1 will meet “The Unicorn of Suzhou” LNG Esports.

Interestingly, right after Gen.G’s defeat, T1’s official social media reacted almost immediately. Specifically, when the match between Gen.G and BLG ended (around 7:45 PM Vietnam time), at exactly 8:30 PM (Vietnam time), T1 posted a highlight reel of their victory over BLG along with a proudly defiant thumbnail of Gumayusi.

Of course, T1’s somewhat too-timely post delighted many viewers. Throughout the match, no one understood how T1 could lose to Gen.G yet win against BLG in a completely dominating performance with a score of 2-0. In fact, T1’s victory was remarkably “clean” as the players made almost no mistakes, even Oner, who is often considered the weakest performer.

However, it is also possible that T1 simply wanted to choose the most effective posting time according to familiar media rules. Moreover, Gen.G’s loss to BLG was largely due to their own “self-destructive” decisions before the BLG players capitalized on those mistakes to shine. So Gen.G can only blame themselves for missing the opportunity to advance.
