Gen.G “helps” LPL set a new milestone on their exit from 2023 Worlds, GAM “suffers collateral damage”

Gen.G lost, but GAM was also "called out".

As we know, Gen.G has officially exited the 2023 World Championship (Worlds). For Chovy and his teammates, once again they are considered top contenders for the championship and entered Worlds as the number 1 seed, and once again, they missed out on the title. This time, it’s even more disappointing than last year when Gen.G was eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Even more “bitter,” while T1 “avenged” Bilibili Gaming, Gen.G was once again defeated by the second seed from LPL.

With this defeat, Gen.G has “helped” LPL set a new milestone. It has been 3,315 days since the last all-Chinese lineup was able to defeat an LCK team at Worlds. About 9 years ago, the team that did this was Oh My God, and their opponent at that time was NaJin White Shield in a Quarterfinal match. That was also the end of a name in LCK, as NWS disbanded that very year, 2014. For those who don’t know, NWS was also the former team of coach Zefa and renowned Supports like Wolf and GorillA.

At the same time, on the day Gen.G lost, many VCS fans found several similarities between GAM Esports and the current LCK champion. Specifically, both teams entered the 2023 Worlds as the number 1 seed, and their main uniforms are also in black and yellow. Additionally, both teams have a bot lane duo that underperformed compared to expectations and a jungler who dropped in form during crucial matches. However, the difference lies in the top lane and mid lane of GAM (Kiaya and Kati) who performed well and stood out in almost all matches. Nonetheless, another similarity is that both Chovy and Kati used Akali in their last game at Worlds 2023.

Of course, these are just playful critiques of the current LCK champions. But clearly, Gen.G cannot be satisfied with this result. Meanwhile, GAM’s players can breathe a sigh of relief knowing they gave their all at this year’s Worlds.
