Gen.G May Be Under a “Curse” They Created Themselves
Remember, 2024 can be said to have brought a significant advancement for Gen.G, as they not only broke T1 or SKT T1’s unbeaten record from years past but also crowned champions of MSI that same year. This was their first international title since KsV took over and completely transformed the former Samsung Galaxy into Gen.G. However, unfortunately, that also turned out to be Gen.G’s last glory to date. Many believe this is because Gen.G has “self-sabotaged.”

Specifically, many League of Legends fans may still remember that just before EWC 2024 and after their MSI victory, Gen.G released a highly confident poster claiming they were the World Champions (according to the name of EWC as Esports World Cup). However, this not only angered T1 fans (as T1 was the reigning champion of the 2023 World Championship at that time) but also led the general League of Legends community to ridicule them.

But what’s even more unfortunate for Gen.G is that since the announcement of that poster, they have gone empty-handed in all tournaments they participated in. They were eliminated early after just one match against Top Esports. In the Summer LCK, Gen.G lost to HLE in the finals, and at the following World Championship, they were stopped by T1, ending their perfect winning streak whenever these two teams faced each other. Moving into the LCK Cup, Gen.G continued to lose to HLE – consequently losing their spot in the First Stand. Not to mention, the LCK in 2025 has switched to a new format, and despite being completely unbeaten, Gen.G still has no new titles.

Gen.G at MSI 2025 Will Still Be a Big Question Mark
Chovy and his teammates secured a spot for MSI 2025 as the only team maintaining a 100% unbeaten record from the beginning of the Regular Seasons until now. However, MSI 2025 is a different battleground, and it will be difficult for Gen.G to remain unbeaten as they did during the recent LCK stage. Furthermore, Gen.G also has a “precedent” of failing when the expectations are highest, making it hard to say that Chovy and his teammates will succeed in Vancouver this year.
