On May 9th, the MSI 2023 Playoffs officially kicked off with a match between Gen.G and G2 Esports (G2). The Spring 2023 LCK champions showcased their superior strength against their LEC counterparts, defeating them with a final score of 3-1. It can be said that Gen.G completely outperformed G2 in terms of movement and team strategy.

After the match concluded, Gen.G received numerous questions regarding their drafting strategies against G2. This was due to G2’s reputation for having a variety of interesting strategies and picks in major tournaments. However, Gen.G believed that G2 was not as unpredictable as they had anticipated.

“Honestly, I was quite worried before the match against G2 Esports. This is a team known for their unpredictable strategies, and we had prepared multiple approaches. However, they did not show that against us. Perhaps G2 has run out of ideas, and their only effective strategy was the Nautilus Mid Lane,” shared Peanut from Gen.G.

In reality, during the match against Gen.G, G2 attempted to use some champions like Darius and Aurelion Sol to catch their opponents off guard. However, Gen.G seemed well-prepared for these strategies as they effectively countered Darius and Aurelion Sol. As a result, G2 often found themselves in a passive position and lost as Gen.G controlled the game better.

Of course, this defeat is not the end of G2’s journey in MSI 2023. They still have a chance to make a comeback in the lower bracket in the upcoming matches. However, G2 needs to develop new strategies that are truly effective if they want to progress further in this tournament.
