The LCK’s post ignited controversy among T1 fans and the broader League of Legends audience.
On the evening of May 10th (Vietnam time), a match between T1 and MAD Lions will take place. This highly anticipated match sees T1 rated somewhat higher based on current performance. It will mark the debut of Faker and his teammates at this year’s MSI. Additionally, the match will serve as a showcase of the determination and capabilities of T1 players following an unsatisfactory outcome in the 2023 LCK Spring Finals.

However, a minor incident occurred ahead of the match. Specifically, the official social media account of LCK posted an update tagging MAD, consisting only of three handshake emojis. This post immediately sparked controversy, even drawing comments from members of T1’s management.

According to Becker – General Manager of T1, the LCK’s post prior to the match between MAD and T1 was somewhat insensitive. He did not criticize the actions of LCK but believed that when an LCK team is preparing to compete against an opponent from another region, it is inappropriate for LCK to post a message of unnecessary friendliness towards that opponent.

Becker’s viewpoint was strongly supported by T1 fans. Some fans were even angrier, demanding an explanation from LCK. While many opinions suggested that T1 fans might be overreacting, an official account posting such sensitive content at this time is seen as disrespectful to the T1 players.
However, many international viewers commented that T1 fans may be overreacting, especially since MAD had previously posted support for Gen.G during their match against G2. LCK’s post might simply be a gesture of goodwill from that region. Nonetheless, some Western viewers acknowledged that LCK’s post was somewhat inappropriate.

Currently, LCK remains silent about the incident, and the post continues to exist and spark debates within the fan community. The T1 players will certainly not let this affect their mindset, but LCK needs to provide a satisfactory response to the fans of the region, especially T1 supporters.
