In the early hours of October 16 (Vietnam time), the second round of the Group Stage for Group C took place. This group was particularly noted for the presence of the Vietnamese representative – GAM Esports (GAM). And although GAM’s first match of the second round occurred quite early, a large part of the VCS community still closely followed it. The reason is that every match of GAM at this point is likened to a final.
Even though immediately after losing to Rogue (RGE), GAM’s chances of advancing were extremely slim, the players representing League of Legends (LoL) Vietnam did not get discouraged and instead delivered what can be described as one of the most dramatic and exciting matches at the World Championship (Worlds) 2022 right after that. Specifically, in the next match against Top Esports (TES), GAM performed impressively and secured their first (and only) victory at Worlds 2022.
Although in the end, GAM could not advance, what the Vietnamese team achieved is highly commendable. Especially considering that before the Group Stage, TES was seen as a top contender for the championship rather than JD Gaming or Royal Never Give Up. The reason being that TES boasts a roster of experienced players, including two World Championship winners, JackeyLove and Tian.
GAM’s performance was also appreciated by the international League of Legends community, as they delivered one of the most impressive matches in Worlds 2022. According to the international community, even though they had just returned to Worlds after a long hiatus, GAM brought one of the most emotional matches in League of Legends history.
In particular, the audience also did not forget to express their gratitude to Levi for his outstanding performances, starting with his incredibly creative choice of Karthus. Many expressed regret about Levi’s time with 100Thieves, as this LCS team failed to utilize the talent of the Vietnamese jungler. Meanwhile, the international audience also hopes that in the future, VCS will receive more investment to truly have the opportunity to develop.
GAM has completed their season with a performance at Worlds 2022 that isn’t particularly great. However, this should not overshadow the efforts of the players. Fans can trust that Worlds 2022 will be a valuable learning experience for the GAM team to reflect on and strive for greater success in the upcoming seasons.
