Before MSI 2022 began, the two biggest candidates for the championship were T1 and RNG. RNG came to MSI as the reigning champions of the tournament, backed by an impressive run in the LPL Spring 2022. As for T1, Faker and his teammates just went through an extremely successful season with an unbeaten record from the group stage to the playoffs. With such strong representatives from the LCK and LPL, many believed that other teams would just serve as “stepping stones”.
However, G2 Esports has proven all these assumptions wrong with an unbelievable performance in the MSI 2022 Rumble Stage. On the very first day of competition, they defeated both T1 and RNG in two different ways. Moving to the second day, G2 continued to overcome their NA opponent EG and broke the “curse” against the VCS representative with a convincing victory over SGB. As a result, G2’s confidence was clearly displayed during interviews.
Question: Yesterday, Uzi mentioned on stream that you have a special ability that allows you to perform exceptionally well against strong teams. How do you do that? Do you feel like you play better when facing strong teams from the LCK or LPL?
G2 Caps: I’m really grateful to Uzi for saying that. Facing the best players is always a valuable experience, and I always want to perform my best. When playing against T1, they had a significant advantage early in the game, but we remained calm and looked for opportunities to turn the game around later. As the representative of the LEC, we always show our competitiveness. G2’s strength is not giving up and always looking for even the smallest opportunities.
Question: You are currently on a winning streak from the LEC Spring until now. How long do you think this streak will continue?
G2 Caps: I really want to keep this winning streak going as long as possible. We have made a good start, so the whole team is aiming for the top spot in this Rumble Stage. We can finish this phase without losing a single game.
Indeed, with their current high performance, G2 Esports stands a great chance of securing the top position in the Rumble Stage after defeating T1 and RNG. However, taking down the two giants once again in the second round will be a challenging task as they will undoubtedly study G2 very carefully. Hopefully, the G2 Esports players will maintain their current positive mindset and continue to perform successfully in the remainder of MSI 2022.
