As previously reported, a few days ago, the LPL officially announced the lineup for the upcoming ASIAD League of Legends competition. The head coach is KenZhu, who is currently leading Edward Gaming (EDG) in the LPL Summer 2023 tournament. The team members include 369 and Bin (Top), Jiejie (Jungle), Knight (Mid) and the duo JackeyLove – Meiko for the Bot lane.

Of course, as predicted, this lineup immediately received a lot of mixed opinions, from both LPL and international audiences. At this point, the performance of some team members is far from stable. In fact, one could argue that the positions of Jiejie and Meiko leave too much uncertainty. The duo from EDG has even been suggested to be selected just because KenZhu is the head coach of the ASIAD League of Legends team.

Recently, Coach KenZhu has reassured fans and explained his seemingly puzzling choices. He stated: “This roster was actually selected and finalized at the beginning of June but could not be announced due to procedural issues. Therefore, we cannot evaluate based on current performance. Moreover, the choice of Meiko was due to his sportsmanship and experience, and we believe Meiko will be a great source of inspiration for the youth.”

Among the two EDG positions selected, Jiejie is actually the more puzzling choice compared to Meiko. After all, Meiko is one of the two Support players in the LPL who has a full collection of titles that a player here could aspire to. Furthermore, Meiko has maintained good performance for a long time. Meanwhile, since the 2021 World Championship, Jiejie has almost lost himself.

Nevertheless, EDG had a fairly solid Spring 2023 season, and perhaps that is why the EDG duo was chosen. For now, fans can only look forward to the players’ performances and hope they will give it their all.
