On May 3rd, GAM Esports (GAM) had their opening match at MSI 2023. With their opponent being Golden Guardians (GG) from the LCS region, many fans had faith that the Vietnamese team would secure a victory. However, the actual developments were quite different as the VCS representative was swiftly defeated by GG with a score of 0-2.
Even in the post-match interview, GG’s top laner, Licorice, expressed clear disappointment towards the VCS representative. He shared that he did not expect his opening match to go so easily. It seems this player was hoping for a better performance from Levi and his teammates.
“I actually feel a bit disappointed even though our team won. This should have been an intense, exciting match, but we defeated our opponents quite simply. Perhaps we will get used to this as this is how major regions should play against wildcard teams,” Licorice shared after the match.
From Licorice’s perspective, the match against GAM was truly not very exciting. His only task was to push important objectives out of team fights (game 1) or to separate the carries on the VCS side (game 2). In fact, Licorice performed this task very well and caused GAM to suffer a swift defeat.
For the Vietnamese team, this defeat will be a valuable lesson for the VCS representative at MSI 2023. They need to quickly rectify the mistakes made in the match against GG to aim for overcoming Rainbow7 in the upcoming match. Otherwise, the VCS representative being eliminated too early at MSI 2023 is entirely possible.
