If you remember, after the conclusion of Worlds 2014, there was a wave of Korean players joining and competing in the LPL tournament in China. The most successful players of this trend were probably Deft and Pawn when they joined EDG in the 2015 season and immediately won the MSI 2015 title. What’s even more remarkable is that to achieve this title, EDG defeated Faker’s SKT T1 in the Finals that year.

This shows how much love the EDG of 2015 captured from the League of Legends audience in China. Even the EDG players back then were extremely close and always supported each other, even though each eventually took a different path. For instance, just a few days ago, Meiko reached a memorable milestone of 7000 assists, and Deft congratulated his former teammate as soon as he could. And in return, Meiko also thanked him and promised to meet Deft at the upcoming Worlds 2022.

Question: In game 1, you allowed your opponents to lead 0-5 quite early; how did the team communicate at that time?
EDG Flandre: I told Meiko to just stay calm; whenever he hooks (Meiko used Blitzcrank), the whole team will rush in and win.
Question: You recently achieved your 7000th assist, and Deft congratulated you for that.
EDG Meiko: Thank you so much, Deft. Both of us have faced many difficulties to regain our best form. We have been playing much better lately, and I hope we can meet again at Worlds 2022.
In fact, Meiko’s promise has a high probability of happening as both EDG and DRX, with Deft, are performing well in this summer tournament. EDG currently has a record of 8 wins and 5 losses, and in their remaining 3 matches, they only face weaker opponents like RA, WE, or AL. Therefore, it can be said that EDG will secure a spot in the playoffs. Even with their status among the top 4 teams (if they win the remaining 3 matches), qualifying for Worlds 2022 won’t be a difficult task for EDG.

For DRX, the goal of reaching Worlds 2022 will be a bit more challenging as they are currently in 6th place with only 7 wins. However, their recent victory against DK has confirmed Deft and his teammates’ formidable strength. If they can defeat direct rivals like LSB or KT in the near future, securing the fourth ticket (after T1, Gen.G, and DK) to Worlds 2022 is also an achievable goal.
