Gen.G’s “Shocking” Defeat
Before the VCT Champions 2024 tournament for VALORANT kicked off, Gen.G was considered a top contender for the championship. This was simply because they had convincingly won the VCT Master Shanghai and VCT Pacific Stage 2. In fact, in their opening match at Champions, Gen.G swiftly defeated Sentinels with a score of 2-0 to assert their strength.

However, just a few days after that victory, Gen.G’s performance plummeted in an extremely perplexing manner. First, they suffered a 1-2 defeat against Team Heretics, and most recently, they experienced a disappointing 0-2 loss when facing their old rival Sentinels again. This defeat was indeed a “shock” to both fans and experts as one of the major championship contenders was eliminated right from the group stage.

Bad Signs for Gen.G Ahead of Worlds 2024
It is worth noting that the journey of both Gen.G VALORANT and League of Legends teams this year is quite similar. Firstly, they are both champions of their respective regional tournaments, LCK Spring 2024 and VCT Pacific Stage 2. Furthermore, Gen.G also won an international tournament mid-year held in China (MSI 2024 and VCT Master Shanghai). Therefore, many fans believe that Chovy and his teammates will fail at Worlds 2024 just like Gen.G VALORANT collapsed at the recent VCT Champions.

Remember at Worlds 2023, Gen.G also caused major disappointment when they were eliminated right from the quarter-finals despite being considered championship contenders. Gen.G’s three consecutive wins in the Swiss stage brought a lot of hope to fans and experts at that time. However, the unfortunate defeat against BLG left the audience extremely disappointed with Gen.G, and faith in this team to “make a mark” at future Worlds has significantly diminished.

Therefore, when Gen.G’s VALORANT team faced a humiliating defeat at VCT Champions 2024, fans had even more reason to lose faith in this organization. While rationally, the results of the VALORANT team have no evaluation value for the LoL team, the similarities in the journeys of both Gen.G teams this year have led fans to draw parallels and believe it is a “bad omen” for Chovy and his teammates.

Fairly speaking, with the MSI 2024 championship, Gen.G has certainly secured their place in Riot Games’ biggest tournament of the year. This gives Chovy and his teammates more confidence and preparation time for the upcoming Worlds 2024. Perhaps only by winning the Worlds 2024 championship can Gen.G dispel the doubts surrounding them.
