Recently, the Lead Designer of Teamfight Tactics – Riot Mortdog posted a lengthy video summarizing the year 2021. In this video, Riot Mortdog along with Riot Green Teej and Riot Wittrock discussed all versions of Teamfight Tactics, the achievements they have made, and the areas where they fell short.

What stands out the most is that Riot Mortdog revealed that Season 6 is currently running extremely well, with the hextech upgrade system proving to be fantastic. Moreover, Riot Mortdog also disclosed ambitious plans to develop Teamfight Tactics in the future. Essentially, the goal that Riot Games is aiming for is not only the next seasons but also the launch of Teamfight Tactics 2.0 in the near future.

Riot Mortdog: “I remember that Riot’s Vice President – Meddler once said that we need to develop Teamfight Tactics 2.0. And in many different ways, I believe our team is heading in that direction. There will be some very special announcements at the beginning of 2022 coming up.”
Not only in terms of game development, but the Teamfight Tactics development team itself has also grown incredibly fast. Many of our veteran employees have moved to other departments, replaced by many new designers, a new technical team with a plethora of interesting and bold ideas. This growth is so rapid that I feel our Teamfight Tactics development team is also moving towards version 2.0.”

Indeed, in recent years, Teamfight Tactics has made steady progress to distance itself from the shadow of League of Legends. Especially in Season 6, when the core technology system is something that only appears in Teamfight Tactics and creates a very engaging gameplay for this game. Even in the upcoming Season 6.5, the “auto chess” will introduce the champion Silco, the first character to appear in Teamfight Tactics without going through League of Legends.

If it continues to develop in this direction, the prospect of Teamfight Tactics 2 being born and completely separating from the League of Legends client will not be too far from us anymore. At that point, the development team of Teamfight Tactics will be able to freely create, bringing their ideas into the game without having to worry about limitations imposed by League of Legends.
