In the offseason transfer period of the 2021 season, one of the most surprising deals was Weibo Gaming recruiting “Top God” TheShy – the 2019 World Champion and former star of Invictus Gaming. At the same time, WBG also parted ways with Bin, who transferred to Royal Never Give Up.

According to some rumors, since news broke that TheShy would be joining WBG, the team has implemented many strict rules for the former IG star. Anyone who follows the LPL regularly knows that TheShy is famous for his wild lifestyle, lack of training, and especially, his fondness for drinking with friends. A long-lasting injury that left a scar and affected TheShy’s performance stemmed from an incident involving drinking and an accident. WBG does not want to repeat IG’s mistakes and they also want to help TheShy return to the form that earned him the title of “god” among LPL fans in the past.

However, recently, TheShy showed signs of “old habits returning.” Specifically, in a ranked match, he took Syndra to the top lane. This choice had appeared a few times at the end of the 2021 season but was not really effective. To make matters worse, TheShy kept feeding continuously. Even when teammates complained, suggesting that TheShy was throwing the game, he remained silent… and quietly “gifted” kills to the opponents. By the end of the match, TheShy claimed it was his teammates’ poor performance that made him “feed” like that. His KDA in that game was 0/10/4.

Initially expected to improve his playstyle and training, TheShy’s recent performance is truly the same as before and very unprofessional. While ranked games may not signify much, and perhaps TheShy was genuinely frustrated with his teammates’ lack of support, blaming teammates after feeding is simply unacceptable for a player of his reputation, especially someone like TheShy.

Returning to WBG, they parted ways with Bin for several reasons, one of which, as revealed in a recent documentary, was that Bin could not mesh well with SofM during matches. If TheShy can regain his form, he will be an incredibly dangerous player in the top lane. But if not, WBG is holding a “double-edged sword” that, should TheShy “go rogue,” this team will surely face countless difficulties.
