In TFT Season 6, one of the special mechanisms that has players deem this the most exciting season is the Augments. These types of augments help players increase their power, forcing gamers to consider their strategies carefully and build compositions that maximize the potential of these Augments. Of course, players don’t always get their desired Augment. But this is a refreshing innovation that prevents the frequent spam of compositions seen in previous TFT seasons.
The Augments are divided into three tiers, starting from Silver, then Gold, and finally the highest, the Diamond-tier Augment. Each type of augment provides different strengths and there are also augments that grant players trait emblems or activate trait thresholds without needing the corresponding number of champions on the board. Among these three types, the Diamond-tier Augment naturally provides the most power. Even for trait emblems, the Diamond-tier augment surpasses the other two.
Recently, the “father” of TFT – Riot Mortdog stated that he has researched the latest data and discovered the strongest Augment in Season 6. Accordingly, the Augment holding the “unique” position is the Diamond-tier augment, which is the Academy Crown. For those who may not know, this Diamond-tier Augment grants two Academy emblems. When activating the Academy trait at the highest level, alongside 70 AD and AP stats granted by the trait, each champion from this trait also receives an additional 15 stats every time an ally uses their ability.
However, the Academy trait is not typically used as a primary trait at this time. Besides names like Katarina, Lux, Yone, Yuumi, and Leona, Graves and Garen are relatively weak in the late game. But if you equip those Academy emblems on high-damage champions, whether for AP or AD, they will become incredibly effective tools. Strong champions currently like Viktor, Jinx, Jayce, and Akali, if equipped with Academy emblems, will provide a massive amount of damage, becoming real “monsters”.
However, to assess whether an Augment is strong or weak, we must also consider how frequently the augment is used. In some cases, high-ranked augments get their ranking due to not appearing too often. The Academy remains a solid name but has a fragile defense. Moreover, the effectiveness of combining with other traits is the main reason why compositions centered around Academy have become out of meta, despite still having many quality champions.
