Rookie Returns to Worlds and Achieves a New Milestone Related to Faker
Recently, in the final match of LPL 2025, IG made a remarkable comeback against JDG and secured the last ticket to Worlds 2025. As of now, all spots for the tournament set to take place in China in October have been filled, with some regions only left with seed matches. However, entering Worlds 2025 as the fourth seed, IG will face a tough opponent: Faker’s T1.
Rookie will face Faker for the first time at Worlds.
However, this also marks a new milestone in Rookie’s career, as this will be his first encounter with Faker at a Worlds event. In 2018, when Rookie’s IG was dominating Worlds that year, T1 was not present. In 2019, both teams made it to Worlds, but SKT T1 and IG did not face each other.
If we look at the broader context, Rookie has previously faced Faker in the group stage of MSI 2019, resulting in one victory for each team. However, when IG defeated SKT T1, they recorded the fastest game in League of Legends history, finishing in just 16 minutes and 01 seconds. To this day, no team has ended a match faster.
The match still stands as the fastest in League of Legends history.
Rookie – Faker: A Highly Anticipated Clash
Despite being at a disadvantage for many years, each player on IG is now seen as “the pinnacle of League of Legends in China,” especially those who first brought glory to LPL at Worlds, like TheShy or Rookie, or those who have dedicated their entire careers like Meiko. Therefore, IG in LPL is also considered one of the most fan-favored teams.
T1 will still be rated higher.
The match between IG and T1 is not only the beginning of Worlds 2025 for both teams but is also predicted to generate explosive viewership. Currently, T1 is clearly rated higher, but on a surprising day, IG has every chance to create a miracle.
