The Strong Comeback of Scholar – Guardian in TFT Season 12
In fact, the Scholar – Guardian team composition has appeared since the launch of TFT Season 12. The annoying aspect of this team is its incredibly strong healing from the 4 Guardian trait, allowing tank champions to withstand fights for a long time. This ensures that backline carries are not attacked, maximizing the energy regeneration from both Scholar and Guardian traits. Consequently, the damage output from carries is significantly increased to take down opponents.

However, this composition fell into obscurity in patches like 14.19, 14.20 when Riot Games heavily buffed reroll playstyles. Clearly, with a composition relying heavily on 4-5 cost carries, Scholar – Guardian could not hold up in this reroll meta. It wasn’t until patch 14.21 was released and Riot weakened many 2-3 cost carries that the Scholar – Guardian composition had a chance to make a comeback and “master” the meta once again.
Building the Scholar – Guardian Composition in TFT Season 12
With the nature of a “Fast 8” composition, Scholar – Guardian proves to be quite weak in the early game. Therefore, players should take advantage of strong traits – classes during this phase to enhance survivability and maintain health as much as possible. The Mystic framework with quality 1-2 cost champions like Zoe, Jayce, and Galio appears to be a reasonable choice during this stage, providing decent tankiness and damage.

By the mid-game, players should add strong shapeshifters and frontliners to ensure tankiness. Among them, Neeko and Mordekaiser are extremely effective choices players should consider investing in. Neeko has the ability to provide healing for allies and keep other tank units alive longer. Meanwhile, Mordekaiser possesses the ability to create active shields from his skill and serves as a very strong tank.

After reaching level 8, players will use gold to search for 4-star carries like Ryze, Rakan, or Taric to stabilize the team’s strength. Once Ryze and Rakan are at 2 stars, players should save gold to aim for level 9 in the late game. At that point, powerful units like Morgana, Milio, and Diana will be excellent additions to boost healing and damage for the composition.

Some Tips for Building the Composition
Your main Ryze carry needs to have Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Infinity Staff to deal effective damage. If the opponent has strong healing capabilities, Morello’s Evil Tome will be an excellent choice in the late game. Additionally, players should aim for choosing Technology Augments that provide many items (especially Creation items) since this composition has many potential carry champions. Furthermore, players should select the Subscription Service core as soon as possible, as it will provide units like Ryze, Rakan, and Taric very early on.
