After returning from their defeat at EWC 2024, Gen.G is showing an incredibly dominant performance in the regional tournament. Most recently, Gen.G completed the first round of the LCK Summer 2024 group stage by defeating NS with a score of 2-0. This victory also helped Gen.G set a record for winning all matches in the first round without losing a single game.

Furthermore, Gen.G also broke the record for the best first-round performance in the group stage previously held by T1. It is noteworthy that in the LCK Spring 2022, T1 had a first-round record of 9 straight wins but with a score of 18 wins – 4 losses. Gen.G, in the current season, with 9 consecutive 2-0 victories, has officially broken T1’s record for the best first-round performance.

Despite achieving such impressive results, Gen.G’s jungler star, Canyon, believes the team has yet to reach its maximum strength. “Thanks to the hard work of my teammates and coaches, we managed to complete the first round without losing any games. However, if we say we have reached our strongest state or performed perfectly in both gameplay and drafting, that is not the case. We need to identify the issues and resolve them quickly,” Canyon shared.

Indeed, looking back at Gen.G’s first round, they faced several challenging matches and were very close to defeat. For instance, in the second game against HLE, Gen.G allowed their opponents to secure many comfort champions and had a relatively poor start. As a result, HLE took the lead and had an incredibly strong Zeri in the hands of Viper. If Delight from HLE had not made a crucial mistake at the end of the match, Gen.G might have lost this game.

Moreover, Gen.G has also admitted that they have been quite slow in adapting to the meta of the new version. Their defeat at EWC 2024, where they had to play in the newly updated version 14.13, is a prime example of this. With the LCK Summer 2024 group stage having another round lasting about 4 weeks, this weakness of Gen.G can definitely be exploited.

Fairly speaking, while Gen.G has an extremely dominant record in the LCK, they still need to improve in some aspects of gameplay, drafting, and bans. If they can achieve this, Gen.G can certainly create some incredibly memorable achievements in the future.
