A Special Day for VCS
On the evening of August 17th, VCS fans welcomed numerous events from the VCS Summer 2024 tournament. Accordingly, the lower bracket final match between Vikings Esports and Team Whales will be the first time in many years that VCS fans get to watch players compete offline at the stadium. Although it’s not an official arena, being able to see players “in the flesh” is an effort from the VCS organizing committee, Riot, and the teams. Additionally, this match will also determine the remaining spot for Vietnam’s League of Legends to participate in Worlds 2024.

With an outstanding performance across all three games, despite being pressured by TW at times, the incredible resilience and macro skills displayed in the match against GAM Esports allowed Coach SofM’s team to regain the advantage and subsequently snowball to victory. With a convincing 3-0 win, SofM and his players became the remaining VCS team to secure a spot at Worlds 2024. Of course, VKE will also start from the play-ins of the upcoming tournament in London, England.

VCS’s Special Achievement
Notably, with VKE’s victory over TW, VCS has also “surpassed” major regions like LCK and LPL, becoming the first League of Legends region in the world to fully determine its two teams for this year’s Worlds. It can be said that this is one of the rare seasons where VCS finishes its season much earlier than other regions. Aside from the fact that there are only seven teams competing, VCS also did not face any mid-season tournaments that delayed the schedule. Particularly, after the recent GAM – VKE match in the upper bracket final, many international viewers have also highly praised VCS’s potential to make a mark at Worlds this year.

Of course, VCS’s “early finish” is due to various objective and subjective reasons. However, with what has been demonstrated in the Summer 2024 tournament, and after a Spring filled with many upheavals, VCS fans are gradually regaining their trust in the players. Both GAM and VKE have performed their best and the Vietnamese League of Legends community has the right to believe and hope for a Worlds 2024 that will contain many surprises.
