Vietnamese-Origin DOTA 2 Player Achieves Historic Feat at TI 2024
One of the top Esports disciplines in the world – DOTA 2 has its own large-scale annual tournament systems, and one of them, which is also the Esports tournament with one of the highest prize pools in the world, is The International (TI). This tournament is similar to world-class tournaments in other disciplines and is regarded as the one that determines the king of DOTA 2 thereafter. Just like some other world-class tournaments, for example, the World Championship of League of Legends, the TI tournament is not easy for a champion to defend their title the following year.

In 2024, the TI tournament was held quite early and concluded in early September. After a dominating finals against Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid secured their second championship in the history of this team at the highest level of DOTA 2, matching the achievements of OG and Team Spirit. Additionally, player Vũ “miCKe” Thế Sơn became the next Vietnamese-origin player in history to win a TI, following Anathan Pham.

The Image That Touches the Hearts of the Vietnamese DOTA 2 Community
Notably, on the day miCKe crowned with TL, the image of the Vietnamese flag also had the opportunity to fly at the TI arena. This image undoubtedly made the Vietnamese DOTA 2 community feel proud. Currently, DOTA 2 in Vietnam is no longer as popular as it once was. Compared to rival games, both the number of players and viewers are quite low. miCKe’s achievement is hoped to create a boost for DOTA 2 in Vietnam in the near future.

In the finals of TI 2024, TL dominated with a score of 3-0. This is also the second title for the team from North America in DOTA 2 after they previously won the Elite League Season 2.
