Recently, the team Victory Five announced the latest news regarding a groundbreaking change in the history of this organization – ESV5, as their parent company will officially merge with the esports organization Ninjas in Pyjamas – An organization originating from Sweden.
ESV5 – The operating unit of Victory Five, was previously established by the merger of two organizations Victory Five and eStar (after this team sold their LPL slot to Ultra Prime). V5 continued to have a relatively impressive performance in the LPL Spring 2021, after their achievement of reaching the LPL Summer 2020 Playoffs. However, entering the Summer 2021 tournament, this team once again “returned to themselves,” losing all 16 matches in the group stage, re-establishing their record from the Spring 2020 tournament.
With ESV5 merging with Ninjas in Pyjamas, V5 will also change its name and participate in the LPL Spring 2020 under the new name Ninja in Pyjamas (NiP). If you are a fan of CS:GO, you will surely be very familiar with this name.
The acquisition of V5 by NiP can be seen as a milestone marking the entry of a foreign organization into the Chinese League of Legends market, just as previously speculated. Besides the name change, NiP also made promises to upgrade the quality of the roster in order to improve V5’s ranking on the Chinese LoL map. However, this has led to skepticism among many LPL fans, as it is unclear whether NiP has the “force” to compete financially with domestic organizations, which are backed by prominent individuals and groups from the Panda land.
