As is known, at VCS Spring 2024, one of the new implementations is that Vietnam’s largest League of Legends tournament will apply some rules similar to PCS. Accordingly, any BO3 or BO5 match that ends in a draw before the final game (1-1, 2-2) will lead both teams into a 1v1 match on the Howling Abyss map of ARAM. The team that wins this solo match will have the right to choose sides for the deciding game.

Right after the new format was announced, the VCS community had mixed reactions. One side was very excited about the potential for entertainment moments between tense matches. However, the other side argued that this idea was not truly feasible and could even negatively impact both the audience and the teams, players.
The argument made at that time was that in BO5 matches, if it goes to game 5, it is already quite late and both players and fans might feel exhausted. If an additional 1v1 match is required, even though the duration is not long, it could affect the players’ mental state and physical condition for the deciding game.

However, despite the anticipation from both supporters and opponents of the new VCS rule, as of now, there has not been a single match in VCS that has gone to a solo 1v1 side selection round. Throughout the 4 matchups since the official start of VCS Spring, the winning team always clinched victory with a score of 2-0, even in a matchup considered evenly matched like GAM Esports – Team Whales. This has caused the VCS audience to become extremely anxious, with many eager to see a 1v1 solo match. Especially since the PCS has already featured matches in this format.

Nevertheless, VCS Spring 2024 is still in its early matches. With caution, it is possible that in the near future, as matchups become more balanced, fans will soon be able to watch 1v1 side selection matches according to the VCS format.
