As we know, VCS Spring 2024 will officially kick off on January 20, 2024. This tournament will mark the beginning of Riot’s second year officially taking over and rebooting the tournament system of the Vietnamese LoL scene. Therefore, after a year of “getting started,” VCS fans are also looking forward to year two, with Riot and the VCS organizing committee bringing many new things. To meet the expectations of the audience, the VCS organizing committee recently announced a series of new improvements, from the match schedule to the format, and most recently, the prize pool.

Accordingly, the total prize for the VCS Spring 2024 champion reaches 605 million VND. Adding the prize money for the following positions, the total prize value of VCS Spring 2024 has exceeded 1.8 billion. For those who don’t know, this prize value has skyrocketed, as in the VCS Dawn 2023, the champion GAM Esports only received 400 million. Moving to VCS Dusk 2023, the prize value remained unchanged. This can be seen as a significant step forward for VCS, as Riot has started to invest more in Vietnam’s top-level LoL tournament.

The VCS community is also very excited about this prize value, and even GAM Esports has expressed surprise. The total prize pool of over 1.8 billion has helped VCS reach a prize value equivalent to PCS among small regions and wildcard areas. At the same time, the gap between VCS and major regions in the LoL scene is showing signs of being diminished. However, for some viewers, this prize value is still too low.

Of course, compared to the costs incurred for owners to invest in teams, this prize value is not really high. However, in the world of LoL in particular and esports or sports in general, almost no one can rely solely on prize money to invest in team funds. Except for some disciplines, like DOTA 2 with its enormous prize pools. For the most part, the income of teams and players, especially in LoL, comes from salaries, bonuses, sponsorships, livestreaming, and other revenue streams apart from tournament prize money.

But certainly no team can sustain and grow solely from tournament prize money

However, it is clear that the VCS organizing committee has provided a timely morale boost. Moreover, with the increased prize money, along with innovations in both domestic and international formats, VCS Spring 2024 promises to be extremely exciting in the coming days.
