As previously reported, on the afternoon of March 28th, VCS released the latest announcement regarding the ongoing negative allegations plaguing the tournament. Specifically, an additional investigation list featuring 32 members from 8 VCS teams was unveiled, leaving the audience in shock. What started as speculation about a few teams involved has now implicated all teams in the VCS, including the reigning champion GAM Esports and fan-favorite Team Whales, with players suspected of being involved. At this point, it’s clear that fan trust in VCS teams has plummeted, regardless of the investigation’s outcome.

However, in a recent announcement, the VCS organizers and Riot decided that the VCS Spring 2024 playoffs will continue as scheduled. This is a commendable effort by the VCS organizers, Riot, and the teams still eligible to participate in this phase. Accordingly, the 4 teams competing in the playoffs will include GAM Esports, Team Whales, Team Secret, and Vikings Esports. Among these, only VKE has more than 2 members suspected of involvement. Meanwhile, the other 3 teams each have only 2 members listed in the additional investigation.

Previously, Riot representative Mr. Ban “ChisinX” Chee (Product Director of Professional League of Legends at PCS and VCS) also stated that Riot would strive to ensure the VCS continues. With the latest announcement from the VCS organizers, it can be understood that Riot has fulfilled its commitment.

Immediately after the VCS organizers’ post, SofM also made a surprising move. Earlier, he had posted on his fanpage about the possibility of “plugging back in” to compete as many of his students were under suspicion. However, in his latest post, SofM is recruiting members for the Top Lane, Jungle, and Support positions. Therefore, the chances of SofM playing are virtually nonexistent.

It’s unclear what will happen after the playoffs, but at least for now, it shows that all parties are making efforts to get the VCS back to normal as much as possible. However, it is also possible that this is a move to conclude the season swiftly, allowing the VCS organizers and Riot time to deliver a final verdict.
