Statikk Shiv
This can be said to be one of the worst attack items in Teamfight Tactics Season 6 as its effect was not suitable for any specific team composition or champion. In Season 6, teams, whether following a reroll style or saving gold, tended to focus on “signature” items right from the start. Furthermore, there were no units in Season 6 that dealt magic damage but also hit frequently. Therefore, Statikk Shiv was not utilized at all.

However, the story changed completely in Season 7 when there were too many champions dealing mixed damage that made good use of Statikk Shiv. Notably, Ezreal, Karma, Ashe… and even Varus can use this item in certain situations. As a result, Statikk Shiv suddenly became an extremely strong damage-dealing item in the early game and helped players maintain their health very effectively, leading to its widespread use.
Bloodthirster
Although it was not “discarded” like Statikk Shiv, Bloodthirster was also an item that was rarely used in Season 6. The reason is that this item only provided lifesteal with physical damage and was suitable for only a few specific carries. In fact, in some metas where crowd control units were too strong, this item was used less than Quicksilver. Therefore, Bloodthirster was relegated to a situational item in Season 6.

As we entered Season 7, Bloodthirster received a significant overhaul, with the item’s effect changing to provide full lifesteal instead of just applying to physical damage. Therefore, Bloodthirster was immediately used much more on carries that dealt high magic damage like Lee Sin or Yone. In certain situations, you can completely equip this item on Mage units or Ao Shin, Aurelion Sol to ensure their safety.
Dragonscale
There are many reasons why Dragonscale became extremely “useless” in the late part of Season 6. First, teams focusing on magic damage were no longer very strong, and secondly, the damage dealt by this item was nerfed, so its usability value was no longer high. Clearly, in a meta filled with physical carries at various price points, an item that only provides magic resistance like Dragonscale hardly has a place.

Similar to Bloodthirster, Dragonscale also received a slight rework in Season 7, where instead of dealing damage, this item also provided healing for the champion that owns it. Combined with the emergence of many strong magic damage dealing team compositions in the meta since the start of Season 7, Dragonscale has been frequently equipped by players in every match. This item, along with Warmog’s Blood Armor and Thornmail, is currently among the best defensive items available.
