The marquee match of the LCK Summer 2022 kicked off with a showdown between Gen.G Esports and DWG KIA. These are the two top candidates for the Summer Championship this season. Additionally, this match served as a platform for both teams to demonstrate their determination and strength in the title race. Gen.G has certainly forged connections among their stars. Meanwhile, DK welcomed back Nuguri – the Top Laner who, alongside Canyon and ShowMaker, formed the championship-winning roster of the 2020 World Championship.

Game 1 was incredibly thrilling despite the limited kills between the two teams. Both sides played cautiously yet consistently provided the audience with excitement through their proactive movements. DK had champions with excellent initiation, but Gen.G boasted significant advantages in itemization. However, the game was decided when Lehends, playing Singed, executed a brilliant play, stealing Baron with Smite. Gen.G capitalized on this advantage to win the ensuing team fight and secure the game.

In Game 2, both DK and Gen.G opted for compositions that could scale over time. However, Gen.G appeared to have a stronger late-game potential, forcing DK to play a bit more aggressively. Nuguri faced heavy pressure, leading to one of DK’s lanes losing control. However, Doran on Gen.G also made significant mistakes.

As Canyon, ShowMaker, and Deokdam began to find their rhythm, DK gradually took complete control of the game. ShowMaker and his teammates systematically eliminated objectives before executing a sneaky push to close out the game, leveling the score in this matchup.

Highlights GEN vs DK – Game 2 _ LCK Summer 2022 _ Week 2 Day 1

Moving into the decisive game, DK failed to leverage the psychological advantage from their Game 2 victory. The highly proactive composition of DK was stifled by Gen.G during team fights and turret dives. A dominant Corki from Chovy made all of DK’s efforts increasingly futile. Gen.G secured the Dragon Soul, Baron, and ultimately the game from DK’s grasp.

This defeat is not a disaster for DK, but it has certainly exposed all their weaknesses. The 2020 LCK champions could not withstand the overwhelming assault from Gen.G, even with Nuguri’s return and stable performance. DK clearly has a lot of work ahead if they want to compete for the title this Summer.

As for Gen.G, they have shown determination and a much more cohesive performance compared to Spring 2022. However, Doran’s inconsistent form remains a significant vulnerability that Gen.G’s opponents, such as T1, may exploit when the two teams face off.
