If LEC was once considered the “friendly tournament of G2 and friends”, then currently, PCS – the League of Legends tournament in the Asia-Pacific region, is in a similar situation, as PSG Talon seems too “outclassed” compared to the rest of the competition.
As of August 27, PSG Talon held the title for the most dominant performance in the world, with 47 wins and only 1 loss, including a streak of 46 consecutive victories. Additionally, they were also unbeaten in all Bo5 matches in the regional tournament, having not lost a single game.
With such a devastating performance, it seemed only a matter of time before PSG became the first team from the PCS region to qualify for the 2021 World Championship. However, just after one match, all record milestones of Maple and his teammates were abruptly ended, along with the first ticket for the Asia-Pacific region to the Worlds slipping from their grasp, after a 2-3 defeat to Beyond Gaming in the PCS Summer 2021 Playoffs winners’ finals held yesterday.
Indeed, no one dared to think that Beyond could pull off a surprise against PSG Talon, even though they are the second strongest team in the region. However, in the last two Bo5 matches between the two teams, BYG was ruthlessly crushed by PSG with the same score of 3-0 – a testament to the vast skill gap between PSG and the rest of the tournament.
But ultimately, BYG delivered an incredibly resilient and outstanding performance, successfully coming back to end PSG’s winning streak. Looking back at the past, the only loss PSG suffered before this Bo5 matchup was also against Beyond, when the two teams met in the group stage of PCS Spring 2021.

With a “glorious” victory over PSG, Beyond Gaming is now the first team from PCS to secure a spot at the 2021 World Championship. As for PSG, they still have a chance to defend their title and claim the remaining ticket. PSG will face J Team in the losers’ finals, and the winner of this match will officially secure the second ticket for the 2021 World Championship, while also facing Beyond Gaming again in the grand finals.
