On the match day of July 23 (Vietnam time), T1 faced yet another defeat, this time against OK BRION. This loss is particularly notable as OKBRO is one of the weaker opponents T1 could have scored points against at this time. Unfortunately, all the T1 players could manage was a lead (before ultimately losing) in game 1, winning game 2, and then being completely overwhelmed in game 3. This defeat marks T1’s seventh loss in the LCK Summer 2023.

With these continuous defeats, it can be said that the morale of T1 players has hit rock bottom while Faker’s return date remains uncertain. This was even more pronounced in the loss to OKBRO. A T1 that usually knows how to finish off opponents failed to capitalize on their advantage throughout most of the match (game 1). Moreover, T1 players have lost the boldness that once defined them, becoming overly cautious, if not extremely careful.

The fears of T1 fans regarding the players’ declining morale are now clearer than ever. Even a player often described as having a strong character and a bit of a “wild” side like Gumayusi can no longer maintain his composure and reasonable assessment of the situation. According to the well-known streamer LS, Gumayusi purchased useless items in the loss to OKBRO. He shared: “Why does the opponent have 3 melee champions, and we have Gangplank/Maokai and Jayce for poke? These champions are also very good counters to Azir/Xayah. But look at what Gumayusi built. He went for Guinsoo’s Rageblade instead of Liandry’s Anguish.”

In fact, even in game 1, LS suggested that Gumayusi did not optimize Jinx’s strengths. Instead of a Runaan’s Hurricane, LS argued that Gumayusi went for a lifesteal item (Bloodthirster) which left him without damage and rendered that item useless. LS stated that if OKBRO could reach Gumayusi, then Bloodthirster would not help him survive. Meanwhile, T1 needs Gumayusi to always have damage to take down opponents or activate his passive.

As an experienced player known for his aggressive playstyle, Gumayusi playing too safely could indicate that he has also begun to lose confidence in himself and wants to ensure he is not taken down too quickly despite having teammates around. Gumayusi’s loss of morale will be the final warning bell for T1 to take action. After all, it will be difficult for Faker alone to revive a team whose spirit is already shattered, even if T1 makes it to the playoffs.
