The “super feature” in League of Legends is being called for a redo
Just a few days ago, the new season of League of Legends officially launched with version 25.1, bringing many significant changes to the game. One of these is the “super feature” called the Chain of Strength, which enhances the power of Tier 2 Boots. Moreover, when one side secures the Chain of Strength, players can use gold to upgrade to Tier 3 Boots with extremely powerful stats and effects.

Immediately after the appearance of this “super feature” in League of Legends, it sparked a fierce backlash within the community. It’s important to note that the conditions to achieve this “super feature” (having 2 out of 3 objectives including First Blood, the first turret, and the first large objective) already have a strong snowball potential. Combined with the additional stats from the Chain of Strength effect, the team that owns it can almost secure an easy victory.

Therefore, many voices in the League of Legends community believe that this “super feature” needs to be adjusted, or even completely overhauled to reduce the excessive snowball effect that is currently too strong in the game. “I think the Chain of Strength should be redesigned as an objective that both teams can achieve. Locking the reward of this feature to just one team while the other players cannot upgrade to Tier 3 Boots is causing it to have an excessively snowballing nature.
Even if the team without the Chain of Strength wins some fights, they still can’t come back because they don’t have Tier 3 Boots. Therefore, it would be fairer if this feature were redesigned to allow both teams to achieve it, for example, based on the number of turrets taken or the number of large objectives secured.” – A player shared.

League of Legends developers rushed to implement adjustments, but “it’s still too little”
Perhaps the League of Legends design team received feedback from players, as in the latest update, they made some adjustments to the Chain of Strength. However, these changes simply reduce some stats for Tier 3 Boots, and some adjustments are not even very meaningful. For instance, the Sorcerer’s Boots have their basic magic penetration reduced from 19 to 10 and their percentage magic penetration reduced from 10% to 8%.

Clearly, adjustments like these are “too little” and do not address the excessively strong snowball effect that the Chain of Strength possesses. It should be noted that League of Legends in previous seasons has already had a very strong “snowball” effect (especially in ranked mode) due to the significant influence of junglers, champion design… Combined with the “super feature” Chain of Strength, the fact that a League of Legends match can be decided within just 15-20 minutes has become increasingly common, somewhat reducing the strategic nature of the game. Perhaps it is time for Riot Games to seriously reconsider the impact of the Chain of Strength and redesign it if necessary.
