The Community Speaks Out to Clear Faker’s Name Over the ‘Hide on Bush’ Move: ‘It’s All the Earth Dragon’s Fault’

Despite a rather funny mistake, what matters is that Faker still fulfilled his role to secure victory for T1.

T1 has just secured a smooth 2-0 victory against SANDBOX Gaming to maintain their top position in the LCK Summer 2020 standings. In a matchup that was heavily one-sided, it’s clear that the gameplay itself wasn’t what drew the viewers in.

On the flip side, our man Faker, as usual, knows how to make an impact, with a scenario that is quite familiar: using his Azir ultimate into thin air during a moment in the 15th minute of game 2.

In the situation where he spotted Graves appearing in the river near mid-lane, and his teammates were closing in to prepare for a pick-off, Faker made a bold move and used his Emperor’s Divide with the intent of pushing Gragas towards his teammates.

Unfortunately, all of the Chairman’s calculations went… completely wrong, as Gragas did not move towards mid-lane but instead ran straight into the jungle, leading to a rather embarrassing moment.

Fans are already quite familiar with Faker occasionally having “quirky” plays during matches, so that situation was merely seen as a moment of being “possessed by Hide on Bush,” since what really matters is that T1 still came out as the victorious team.

However, from a try-hard perspective and considering tactical elements, many players expressed curiosity and wanted to understand why Faker handled the situation in such an unusual way. He surely aimed at Gragas, but was his prediction of the opponent’s movement without vision perhaps a bit too confident?

Recently, the Reddit community came forth to clear Faker’s name in this situation. Yes, the Chairman made an error, but his decision to engage was not without justification.

Specifically, a player posted a clip of the situation from Faker’s screen perspective, and the reasoning behind the play was explained as follows:

This is from Faker's pro camera perspective. Initially, I was confused about why he did that, but upon reflection, this is a situation with reasonable grounds. It seems that the terrain-changing effects of the Earth Dragon had a bigger impact than I thought (everyone explain more please!)

Faker saw Gragas E towards the wall. But he didn't see any movement signs in the left corner, so he assumed Gragas would head towards mid-lane. However, Gragas ultimately went in a different direction, but Faker couldn't see that due to the rock that appeared there from the Earth Dragon's effect limiting his vision. He saw Gragas E on the wall. That's why the Earth Dragon had such a significant impact as seen in that play.

The terrain-altering effect of the Earth Dragon created a rock that blocked vision. Essentially, it caused T1 to have less visual range than usual. Therefore, when Faker saw Gragas coming up from the river but didn't detect him in the jungle, he could only assume that Gragas was coming from the small path near the Bird camp to head into mid-lane...

Thus, Faker’s handling of the situation was simply a miscalculation when he did not anticipate the impact of the terrain created by the Earth Dragon’s effect; the T1 captain is not as “quirky” as many people might think.
