For the gamers of the League of Legends community, August 8th is a very special day. Eleven years ago, Garena officially brought League of Legends to Vietnam, contributing to the dawn of an esports era in the S-shaped country. Since then, many legendary names have emerged and become a source of pride for Vietnamese LoL, with many ups and downs, but certainly, it’s hard for anyone to forget this special day.

However, instead of the grand events like in previous years, this year, 2023, everything is remarkably different, and an astonishing silence envelops the Vietnamese LoL scene. As in previous years, even a month before the birthday, Garena would release numerous welcoming events. Not to mention, in addition to in-game events, there would be countless promotions that excited gamers. Nevertheless, all of this has vanished because currently, VNGGames is the publisher of League of Legends after taking over from Garena.

However, VNGGames surely understands the significance of August 8th. The only issue is that this publisher cannot organize any events. This is because the date that VNGGames officially took over League of Legends from Garena was January 6, 2023. Therefore, the birthday of League of Legends under VNGGames will be counted as January 6. Players will have to wait until this date for any events from Riot and VNGGames.

On many forums, quite a few gamers have expressed deep regret and nostalgia for the “golden age” when League of Legends was still under Garena’s ownership. However, there are also many who understand that: League of Legends under Garena and under VNGGames are two different versions. Only the data systems are similar, so besides feeling nostalgic, there’s not much that can be done.

However, VNGGames and Riot will surely know how to please the Vietnamese League of Legends community. January 6 will mark the one-year anniversary of Riot and VNGGames officially taking over League of Legends in Vietnam. But the events must truly be special and meaningful, before the wave of discontent from the community may rise once again.
In conclusion, what League of Legends gamers received today is simply two words: Silence!
